The journey towards the launch of the Naija: Spirit of Oneness collection started sometime in May 2024. You know that point in a project that efikos refer to as ‘Ideation stage’. At that point, Oga Sam (our Creative Director) took off in search of ideas for the new collection.
The Guessing Game!
Then began the guessing game.
“Will the new designs feature the new national anthem?”
“Will it have designs in multicolour?”
We were sha anticipating these ogbonge “incoming” designs!
Then Mr. Sam came up for air, and boy! were we wowed! We never esperedit! He totally went off our expectations and came up with new designs that we didn’t see coming.
The signature design for the 2024 collection–Naija: Spirit of Oneness–was even more heartwarming because it came at the right time. We are at a point where Nigeria is experiencing disunity and distrust, and insecurity is at an all time high across the country. Naija: Spirit of Oneness, resonates deeply with a lot of people who are passionate about Nigeria.
The wide acceptance of this collection was evident at the official launch of the collection in Abuja, where we got to interact with and interview some attendees. It was heartening to know that there are a lot of people who still have hope in Nigeria and are willing to do the bit they can in their own little corners, to foster peace and unity in the country. A lot has been said about ‘Gen Z’ and the perceived ‘feelings’ towards Nigeria, but we interviewed some at the launch and it was amazing to hear their outpouring of love for our fatherland and their desire for a greater Nigeria.
The event drew a crowd of influencers, fashion enthusiasts, cultural custodians, friends of Nigeria (foreigners who love Nigeria), and of course our ever loyal customers, the real brand ambassadors, each eager to witness how Arewatees would capture the essence of Nigeria’s multifaceted spirit. Guests were treated to a unique display that showcased the new designs—each outfit inspired by key moments and symbols from Nigeria’s past and present.
The collection features six new designs. This iconic collection was inspired by Nigeria’s rich heritage, with a nostalgic twist—echoing symbols of the nation’s independence, and touching on the essence of oneness amidst diversity. Intricate patterns, and thoughtful messaging were all woven into the designs.
For the team at Arewatees, it was a really beautiful opportunity to connect physically with our customers who had become family even without having met us.
